Wealthy investors can increase the jewelry consumption

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Jewelry, gems and watches became the second-largest “passion investment” category, overtaking art, for high-net-worth individuals in 2009, according to the 2010 World Wealth Report published by Capgemini and Merrill Lynch. The 2008 financial crisis increased demand for more tangible assets that were expected to hold their long-term value, the report’s authors found.

Overall, high-net-worth individuals allocated 23 percent of their passion investment funds to the jewelry, gem and watch category in 2009, up from 22 percent in 2008 and 18 percent in 2006, with the latter described as the “pre-crisis” year by the report.  The other passion investment categories included luxury collectibles –such as boats, jets and luxury automobiles– along with art and sports.

High-net-worth individuals from the  Middle East and Asia in particular were  the most heavily invested in the jewelry category, accounting for 35 percent and 31 percent  of their total investments, respectively. The Middle East’s share in the passion investment category totaled only 29 percent in 2008.

Robust demand for jewelry and gems gained steam in late 2008 and increased as the financial crisis unfolded. The report found, though, that recovery at high-end retail was uneven during 2009. Jewelry sales have been slow to rebound after reflecting a 12 percent drop in 2009, when many consumers were buying less showy pieces and switching to silver from gold.

Demand for passion investments is likely to rise for the remainder of this year,  however, the authors noted. Auction houses, luxury goods makers and high-end service providers all expect wealthy consumers to spend more in 2010.

“Further recovery in passion investments, however, is likely to be slow as investors weigh a wide variety of market and investing variables before starting to indulge again broadly in their passions,” the report noted.

The world’s population of high-net-worth individuals grew by 17 percent in 2009 to 10 million and the group’s wealth rose nearly 19 percent to $39 trillion. Asia-Pacific experienced significant wealth expansion in 2009, growing 31 percent  year on year to $9.7 trillion and surpassing European levels, with Hong Kong and India acting as the region’s main drivers.

This wealthy population across North America rose 17 percent year on year after falling 19 percent in 2008 and the group’s wealth increased by 17.8 percent to $10.7 trillion.

Members of the Avery family will be present to welcome guests and celebrate the store opening. As a gesture of appreciation of customer support, the new Quail Creek Crossing store will make a donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of Wichita Falls.

Six burglars took $2M in jewelry from dozens of South Florida homes

Monday, June 28th, 2010

More than 50 homes stretching from Miami-Dade to Palm Beach County have been the target of thieves, and most of the times the crooks struck while the victims were out to dinner.

Police have dubbed the six people arrested for their participation in a burglary ring spanning three counties as the “Dinner Crew Set.” Home surveillance video captured one of the thieves in action — a masked man with a two way radio.

Authorities say the group targeted high end homes around dinner time. The total value of the jewelry stolen during the multiple home invasion robberies was more than $2 million.

Four of the victims live in the upscale Eastern Shores area of North Miami Beach, an area that has been targeted by a string of robberies in recent months.

One of the victims spoke to CBS4 News but didn’t want to reveal her identity.

“I had jewelry that was from my grandmother that I can never get back,” said the woman. “Maybe they’ll be able to find it, but the sentimental jewelry is what upset me, the invasion of the house. I haven’t felt comfortable since.”

Recovery of the jewelry might be difficult or nearly impossible. Much of the jewelry, police say, has been pawned or melted by the crooks to turn a profit.

“We’ve seen various aspects of this multi-jurisdictional criminal enterprise that extended into St. Lucie County, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade County, and continued north into the George,” says Amos Rojas Junior, special agent with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

On Monday, police announced the arrests of the following individuals: Kane Lopez, 31, of Hallandale, Emery Lorenzo, 33, of Miami Lakes, Michael Chala, 24, of Miami Lakes, Silvia Ordonez, 40, of Miami, Jose Lorenzo, 47, of Miami, and Lazaro Tenreiro, 39, of Georgia.

They face numerous charges that include racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering, burglary, theft, dealing in stolen property, money laundering, and witness tampering.

In each incident, the suspects would enter a home, usually through a rear sliding glass door, and steal expensive jewelry including watches, rings, necklaces, gold bracelets, and other high-value items.

The FDLE worked with the Attorney General’s Office of Statewide Prosecution and numerous police agencies to make the arrests.

About marmol Radziner jewelry from architects’ scraps

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Architects frequently divert their attention to miniature constructions such as furniture and even teakettles. Lately they seem to be downsizing even more – to jewelry.

Gijs Bakker, co-founder of the Dutch conceptual design company Droog, recently showed some innovative wearable-art pieces at the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design, and now the award-winning Los Angeles architecture and construction firm Marmol Radziner (which recently designed Vince boutique in San Francisco) has launched a line of jewelry made from leftover building materials.

The idea evolved when architect Ron Radziner, one of the firm’s two principals, designed a clothing store in Los Angeles that happens to sell elaborate jewelry for men and women.

“It prompted me to think of something simpler, like the rubber bracelets that surfers wear,” Radziner said. “In L.A., even men like to wear diamond-encrusted skulls. I wanted something more elemental and beautiful than that.”

He remembered something he found when he was a young surfer in San Luis Obispo: a curved piece of rusty metal.

“I used to wear it as a bracelet,” Radziner said. It became the genesis of the jewelry line.

Looking for a timeless material, Radziner found his answer in the wood and metal workshop where his firm’s architectural models and full-scale building details are made.

“We have also been making bronze lamps, tables and doorknobs there for a long time,” he said. “It is a material I am familiar with, and we had plenty of scraps to experiment with.”

Leftover strips of bronze 3/16 inch thick are now bent, cut and crafted into rings, armbands, bangles and bracelets. Some have perforated patterns, and others are plain or are artificially patinaed.

At Arp, the Los Angeles store where M+R’s broad bronze bracelets and rings were introduced last fall, Radziner’s creations seem more substantial than other silver, gold and platinum designs on display. Even M+R’s slimmer, slightly lighter versions for women seem heavy.

Although most M+R bracelets weigh only about 3 ounces each, Radziner’s understated bling is intended to feel “like a heavy watch.”

Who tell Spot Fraudulent Practices In Fashion Jewelry

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Fashion jewelry enthusiasts do not have to be gemologists. Neither do they have to be dire when wholesale charms. They just have to be sentient of the fraud exchanges and gem misrepresentation in charms markets.
Switching the Stones – Stone switching regularly occurs and this is very disturbing for the buyer because the trinkets loses its assess. It is also hard to make accusations because the jeweler can deny clearly deny the allegations if the buyer does not have testimony.

Mounting is important because this can make or infringe the compact. A depraved jeweler simply switches the sand and replaces them with something alike for the amateur eye. This is typically a deseed with lesser quality. This tactic generates the jeweler thousands of dollars and its tax released. Just presume the gold studs and the guard batteries they must market to come up with the same price. No amazement they do it with jewelry wholesale.

In order for you to thwart this from incident, take observe of these suggestions:
1. You have to know your charms. Note their insignia, girdles and clarity (if they have chips or scratches, their normal appearance, etc.) You have to recollect the locations of the following as if they were their birth lettering. You can observe these by using loupes. You can also paper these for eminent allusion.

It is best to write these down. Record the characteristics of the pebble on the receipt the fashion jewelry wholesale gives you in the amass. Do this before you renounce. Sometimes, supplies do not have enough time to give the accurate clarity and paint grades but they should still document the obvious characteristics. The documentation serves as mark, just in holder switching takes place. It also prevents it from episode.
If the buyer has a diagram or the photograph of the mineral, he must ask the jeweler if this can help as a good enough representation of the significance.
Clean the gem before it is repaired or appraised. By examining the rock and remembering the condition that it is in, you will be able to realize it after it is given back to you.
Be very wary of jewelers who’s mending navy are of low prices. If its too good to be dutiful, it probably is. Maybe this silver jewellery has no experience. Then again, give him the benefit of the suspect. Maybe he is just descent.
If likely, establish an ethical relationship with your jeweler so that he will be more trustworthy. This could also diminish the chances of switching.
A Gem with Laser Inscriptions – If you are timely to get gem shingle that have laser inscription, then this can be a star which will help you be aware whether the pebble has been switched. Whenever you take the mineral to any healing shop or amass, tell the person there that the gem has a laser inscription. You can also ask them to study it under the microscope so that you and the person both agree.

Therefore, when the boulder is returned to you, you can explore the sandstone and rein whether the inscription is still there. In that reason, you will know that the stone is yours. You have to do these gear right away to guarantee that you are not cheated.
